Potty Training is a mystery.

This was Aubree July 7, 2007, a little less than 2 months ago. Looking at this picture you would believe me if I told you that we were making progress with potty training. You would believe me when I would say happily, "She really getting the hang of it, she'll let me know when she has to go and will run to the potty!" And in July I would have said that. We were in potty training glory - goal in sight, she was getting stickers and treats and had even, on occasion, used other people's pottys. I thought we were well on our way. Why, in another month she will have conquered the poopy issue and it would be "Bye Bye" diapers, hello big girl panties.
But something happened between then and now. It's probably my fault. I jumped on the "clear sailing from here" bandwagon and got lazy. Well, the girl is back in diapers because whether she has big girl panties, pull-ups or diapers on the actions are all the same. "I go if I gotta go, wherever I am in whatever I'm wearing." I also got into the habit of letting her go bare-bottomed around the house because that seemed to be the sure-fire trick. She always at least tried to make it to the potty or announce to me that something was going on. She doesn't seem to care too much about that either. She doesn't mind peeing on the floor.

She wears diapers - cheapest option to keep the mess contained. Containment....that was the problem today at church. Aubree (at 2 1/2 years old) had a blowout. Up her back, on her nice church outfit (white shorts), shoes and apparently on some of the nursery toys (sorry nursery crew). And to seal the deal, during cleanup some poo even got on my church outfit. At that point I decided to just come home. Aubree got to borrow some clothes from the church that they keep on hand for just such an occasion. And she thought she was getting the coolest thing ever....new clothes for her! (slightly outdated bright yellow shirt and flowered leggings). She LOVES the outfit. I keep explaining to her we have to return it. So here she is in her borrowed outfit snuggling with her Daddy.
Potty Training is hard. And very messy....although actually, so are diapers.....As the saying goes,

Poo happens.

One of these days Aubree will get tired of being in diapers... lets hope that day comes soon! You don't need any more blowouts :) Maybe you could convince her that princess's go potty in the big potty... not in diapers :)

Hang in there Jess - she's only two. She'll get it. It probably just has to be her own idea and not yours. I think Shannon is on to something though - Princesses going on the big potty may help something click. Tell her that the Princess and the Pauper don't wear diapers!! :)

Hang in there!!!
